Wipe with a damp cloth and let it dry fully before refilling. Do not machine wash, since the stiffening plates are what hold the shelves in shape.

Shelves that hang off the rail you already have.

A foldable fabric closet organiser on stiffened plates, for the jumpers and bags that do not belong on a hanger.

It hangs from the rail you already have, so it needs no screws, no brackets and no assembly.

The compartments suit the clothes that are ruined by hangers: jumpers, knitwear, folded trousers and t-shirts.

Stiffened plastic plates inside the fabric are what keep the shelves flat instead of sagging into a bag.

The fabric is non-woven, breathable and scentless, so clothes stored in it do not come out smelling of storage.

It folds flat when you are not using it, which matters for something bought to save space.

Hanging Closet Organizer

Wardrobes are built almost entirely for hanging, which is odd, because a lot of clothes should never be hung. Knitwear stretches on a hanger and takes the shape of it at the shoulder, and folded trousers slide off a rail eventually no matter how they are draped.

Hanging Closet Organizer

Hanging shelves answer that by turning a section of rail into stacked compartments. The rail carries the weight, so nothing is drilled and nothing is assembled, and you get flat storage in a space designed for vertical storage.

Hanging Closet Organizer

The stiffened plates inside the shelves are what separate this from a fabric sack. Without them, a loaded compartment sags into the one below and the whole thing becomes a bag with dividers. With them, each shelf stays flat and holds its own load.

Hanging Closet Organizer

Non-woven fabric was chosen because it breathes. Clothes stored in sealed plastic for months come out smelling shut in, and a breathable organiser inside an already dry wardrobe avoids that entirely.

Hanging Closet Organizer

It also folds away. Most wardrobe storage is seasonal, and the ones you are not using should not be taking the space you bought them to save.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. This shop's own returns policy gives you 15 days from purchase to send it back in its original packaging with proof of purchase, and we refund the price you paid for the goods.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. We pay the return postage and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back, and provincial consumer protection law protects you whatever our policy says. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hanging closet organizer?

It is a set of fabric shelves that hangs from your wardrobe rail, turning a section of hanging space into stacked compartments for folded clothes.

How does it attach?

It hangs over a standard closet rail. There is nothing to screw in, no brackets and no assembly.

Will it fit my wardrobe?

It suits standard wardrobe rails. Measure the height of your hanging space first, since the organiser needs clear depth below the rail rather than a rail full of long coats.

What should I put in it?

The things that hangers spoil: jumpers, knitwear, folded t-shirts and trousers. It also suits bags, shoes and accessories.

Why not just hang jumpers?

Knitwear stretches under its own weight on a hanger and takes the shape of it at the shoulder. Folded flat on a shelf it keeps its shape.

Do the shelves sag?

There are stiffened plastic plates inside the fabric, which is what holds each shelf flat rather than letting it settle into the one below.

What is it made of?

Non-woven polyester fabric with plastic stiffening plates and reinforced seams.

Does it smell of plastic or fabric when new?

The fabric is described as scentless. If a new item does have any smell, hanging it empty for a day clears it.

Is it breathable?

Yes, which is the reason for using non-woven fabric rather than plastic. Clothes stored in something breathable do not come out smelling shut in.

Will it protect my clothes from moths?

No. It keeps dust off, but it is open fabric, not a sealed barrier. If moths are a problem where you live, use a proper repellent in the wardrobe.

Can I use it for travel?

No, this is a wardrobe organiser. It has no handles, no wheels and no padding, so it is not designed to be packed or carried.

Does it fold away?

Yes, it folds flat when empty, so it stores easily between seasons.

How much weight will each compartment hold?

Enough for folded clothing, which is what it is designed for. Books, tools and other dense items are not what a hanging fabric shelf is for.

Can I put shoes in it?

Yes, shoes and bags are common uses. Put shoes in the lower compartments so anything they shed does not fall onto clothes.

Will it take up my hanging space?

It uses a section of rail, so you trade some hanging width for shelving. Most people put it at one end rather than the middle.

Can I use more than one?

Yes, if the rail is long enough and strong enough. Check the rail rather than the organiser, since it is the rail carrying the load.

Is it suitable for a child's wardrobe?

Yes, and it is popular for exactly that, with the low compartments used for toys and the higher ones for clothes.

How do I clean it?

Wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry fully before putting clothes back in.

Can I machine wash it?

No. The stiffening plates are what hold the shelves flat, and washing will distort them.

Will it work in a small wardrobe?

That is often where it does the most good, because a small wardrobe usually has one rail and no shelves at all.

Does it come with hooks?

It is made to hang on the rail directly. Nothing needs to be fitted to the wardrobe.

Can I hang it on a clothes rail rather than in a wardrobe?

Yes, provided the rail is stable and rated for the weight. An open clothes rail carries far less than a fitted wardrobe rail.

Will it fit over a thick wooden rail?

It suits standard rails. If yours is unusually thick or square, measure it before ordering.

Do the compartments have dividers?

The compartments are stacked and separated by the shelves. Small items such as socks and jewellery are tidier in a box inside a compartment.

Can I store bedding in it?

Light bedding, yes. Duvets are bulky enough that a storage bag suits them better.

Is the fabric see-through?

No. The front is open, so you see what is on each shelf when you open the wardrobe.

Will it crease my clothes?

Folded storage creases less than a crowded rail does. Fold along existing seams and do not overfill a compartment.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days in Canada and seven to ten days to other countries. Delivery is free on orders of $100 or more, so this item qualifies on its own; below $100 a delivery charge of $25 applies.

What if it arrives with a torn seam?

Contact us with your order number and a photograph. That is a fault, and those rights are separate from the 15 day change of mind period.

Can I return it if it does not fit?

Yes. It is a stock item, so this shop's own 15 day change-of-mind policy applies alongside your faulty goods guarantees.

Getting more out of a wardrobe with one rail

4 min read SpaceSaver Canada

Wardrobes are built for the wrong clothes

Almost every fitted wardrobe is a rail and a shelf above it, which assumes most clothes should hang. A good number should not.

Knitwear is the clearest case. A jumper on a hanger carries its own weight from two points at the shoulder, and over a season it stretches there. Take it off the hanger and the shoulders have small peaks in them that a wash will not fix.

Folded trousers slide. T-shirts on hangers take up four times the width they need. Bags and shoes have nowhere to go at all, so they end up on the wardrobe floor under the hanging clothes.

Turning rail into shelves

Hanging shelves are a way of converting a section of rail into the storage the wardrobe should have had.

The rail takes the load, which is why nothing is drilled and nothing is assembled. You hang it, and a vertical space becomes six or so flat ones.

The trade is width. The organiser occupies a stretch of rail that used to hold hanging clothes, so it works best at one end rather than in the middle where it splits your hanging space in two.

Why the plates matter

The difference between a hanging organiser that lasts and one that becomes a fabric sack is entirely in the stiffening.

Fabric alone cannot hold a shelf flat. Load a compartment and it settles into the one below, and once that starts the whole column droops and the shelves stop being shelves.

The plastic plates inside each shelf are what keep them flat under load. It also means the thing to avoid is machine washing, because that is what distorts them, and a wipe with a damp cloth does the job.

Breathable, not sealed

There are two ways to store clothes you are not wearing, and they suit different situations.

Sealed storage, like a vacuum bag, keeps everything out and squeezes the volume down. It is right for a season's worth of bulky bedding going under a bed for six months.

Breathable storage lets air move. It is right for the wardrobe, where clothes are in rotation and the enemy is not dust so much as that shut-in smell that plastic gives everything after a month.

This is the breathable kind, which is also why it is honest to say it will not stop moths. It keeps dust off. A closed barrier it is not, and if you have had moths, the answer is a repellent in the wardrobe, not a fabric shelf.

What to put where

A small habit makes the whole thing work better.

Shoes and bags go in the bottom compartments. Anything shoes bring in from outside then falls downwards onto the wardrobe floor rather than onto folded clothes.

Jumpers and knitwear go in the middle, at the height you can see into without crouching.

The top compartment is the one people misuse. It is the hardest to see into, so it should hold what you need least often, not the thing you reach for daily.
